The Washington State Department of Transportation announced that crews in Lynnwood, Wash., are building new on- and off-ramps for southbound Interstate 5 near the I-405 interchange to improve safety and traffic flow on the busy stretch of I-5.

Drivers in the area should plan for a long-term closure that may affect their routines. Early Friday morning, Aug. 20, crews will reduce the ramp from southbound State Route 525 to southbound I-5 to one lane of general purpose traffic. This change will be in place for at least one year while crews build the new ramps nearby. Drivers are warned to leave early or choose an alternate route if they are traveling through the area.

WSDOT expects heavy congestion on SR 525, I-405 and I-5 during the first few weeks of the closure as drivers adjust to the change and find alternate routes.
