Volvo will be recalling about 270 people to our New River Valley Assembly Plant beginning the week of September 6 – a staffing increase of approximately 223 percent. The recall will support a production ramp-up driven by increased orders. In February, Volvo announced an order for 370 new trucks from Knight Transportation. This was followed by an order for 600 from Penske Truck Leasing in May. The company also says it is winning significant orders from new customers that until now have not had Volvo trucks in their fleets.

In addition to some positive market trends, Volvo officials believe the order increase is also being fueled by the positive experiences its customers are having with new EPA 2010-compliant trucks. Beyond meeting the most stringent emissions requirements in the world, the new Volvos are also delivering up to 5 percent better fuel economy than their predecessors, company officials note.
