Con-way Freight announced that it has been recognized by Motor Carriers of Montana with two safety awards. The company won first place in the 2,500,001 Miles and Over category and a Zero Accidents certificate in the Great West Casualty Co. Fleet Safety Awards. Motor Carriers of Montana and Great West officials presented the awards at the 71st annual Motor Carriers of Montana Convention and Trade Show in Billings, Mont., in August.

“The Great West Fleet Safety Awards honor companies who demonstrate their commitment to safety every day, as we see from their exceptional records for safe driving on Montana’s highways,” says Barry Stang, executive vice president of Motor Carriers of Montana. “Con-way Freight’s drivers traveled an impressive 3.3 million miles without an accident in our state last year, and it was a pleasure to honor them for that extraordinary performance.”

The Fleet Safety Awards were open to all members of Motor Carriers of Montana and were based on Department of Transportation recordable accidents and total miles driven within the state between January and December 2009. They were sponsored by the Great West Casualty Co., one of the largest insurers of trucking companies in the United States.

At the event, Motor Carriers of Montana also recognized the following Con-way Freight drivers:
• Motor Carriers of Montana 2009 drivers of the month Gary Johannsen, Eric Christenson and Rick Flom;
• Montana Truck Driving Championships equipment class winners Dan Felix, Scott Ruth and Pete Habbe; and
• MTDC Grand Champion Bryce “B.J.” Campbell.
