Tom Zachowicz, a professional truck driver for Leonard’s Transportation Inc. of Farmington, N.Y., has been named a Truckload Carriers Association Highway Angel. On Sept. 4, at a service area near Lake Station, Ind., Zachowicz came across a woman and her 14-year old daughter who had just experienced a flat tire. It was raining, and both the woman and the daughter were scared, not knowing what to do next or who to call for help.

Zachowicz asked if he could help, and then fixed the tire quickly and professionally, despite the rain. The woman later wrote a letter to Leonard’s Transportation in which she said she had been on the verge of tears before Zachowicz arrived to help. “My mother always said we have guardian angels, but I never thought mine was a big guy that drove a huge truck,” she wrote. “Please tell [him] thank you for me and that I pray that God rides with him each and every mile he drives.”

For his efforts in fixing the flat tire, Zachowicz received a Highway Angel lapel pin, certificate and patch. Leonard’s Transportation also received a certificate acknowledging that one of its drivers is a Highway Angel.
