Telvent, a real-time IT solutions and information provider, announced the award of a contract from the Beijing Traffic Police to help to expand the Chinese city’s urban traffic management system. The company says it will implement its Telvent SmartMobility Traffic technology on more than 200 traffic junctions, which will enable Beijing authorities to improve traffic flow, increase driver’s safety and reduce air pollution.

Telvent says that due to this project, the citizens of Beijing will enjoy shorter travel times throughout the city, as well as a reduction in delays and backups due to traffic congestion; traffic flow and drivers safety within the city will be improved, and traffic operators will benefit from being able to use installations that help to operate and manage urban mobility efficiently, reducing their citizen response time. According to the company, all of these enhancements will reduce both the emissions of contaminating agents and noise pollution, allowing Beijing to move forward in its efforts to create a sustainable city.

Telvent says it will install its solution Telvent SmartMobility Traffic, which is designed to allow centralization of traffic and enforcement management to enable traffic operators to control traffic in real time and be prepared to respond quickly and effectively to any emergency situation occurring within the infrastructure, leading to a substantial improvement in incident response times and more efficient management of maintenance plans, which, in turn, will lead to a decrease in accident rates and an increase in users’ safety. Specifically, the following systems will be implemented and integrated on the control center: advanced traffic management system, red light and speed enforcement system, closed-circuit television surveillance and a communications network.

“China is a very important market for Telvent,” says Ignacio Gonzalez, chief executive officer. “This agreement demonstrates our active involvement in the Chinese traffic sector and helps Beijing’s Local Authorities in its commitment to optimize urban mobility with the aim of creating a more pleasant and secure environment for citizens and improving their quality of life.”
