During Werner Enterprises’ quarterly recognition ceremony on Tuesday, April 12, driver James Collier of Davenport, Iowa, was recognized for his heroic actions of saving the life of another driver. In the early morning hours of Feb. 1 in Walcott, Iowa, a fellow truck driver suffered a heart attack in the parking lot of a truckstop.

Collier witnessed the driver collapse, and he sprang into action. He rushed over to the fallen driver and administered CPR until the paramedics arrived. If it was not for Collier’s quick response and commendable actions, it is quite possible that the driver would not have survived. The driver, driver’s family and owner of the trucking company have extended their profound gratitude to Collier for his lifesaving actions.

Collier was presented with the Werner Enterprises’ Humanitarian Award, which is given to honored recipients who have distinguished themselves through understanding, empathy and devotion to others in a time of need. The Humanitarian Award is the highest honor bestowed upon an associate who has made an impact on humanity and has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

“Werner Enterprises is incredibly proud of James and the remarkable actions he took that morning,” says Steve Phillips, senior vice president of operations. “We are honored to recognize him, and it is a privilege to have James as a member of our team. It is associates like James who truly make our company a best-in-class organization.”
