SmartTruck, a manufacturer of aerodynamic products, has introduced the second generation of its UT-6 Trailer UnderTray System. SmartTruck says it has begun production of the more durable and versatile redesigned version designed to deliver a fuel efficiency gain of more than 10 percent, according to test results.

“The pace at which the industry is embracing the Trailer UnderTray System encourages us to further develop the product and bring additional enhancements to the industry,” says Mitch Greenberg, president of SmartTruck. “This redesigned system provides greater durability and is much more adaptable to fit the wide range of trailer models on the road today, while still delivering outstanding fuel efficiency.”

SmartTruck also has added a Canadian distributor, Northern Aerodynamic Solutions, which joins a number of U.S. distributors. “As soon as we saw the UnderTray System and the fundamental difference between it and traditional aerodynamic devices, we wanted to be a part of bringing it to Canadian fleets,” says Dave Tyrchniwicz, president of Northern Aerodynamic Solutions.

The updated UT-6 UnderTray System includes redesigned components that are higher off the ground and allow the sled to be independent of the suspension system. The redesigned system also reduces the size of the rear diffuser, allowing the suspension system to travel to the full rearward position. The updated components, along with a more universal hardware package, are designed to combine for easier installation on a wide range of trailer models, cutting installation time to less than two shop hours per system.

Along with increased fuel efficiency, a secondary benefit of the UnderTray System is cooler operating temperatures around the brake, tire and wheel assemblies because of increased airflow under the trailer, the company says.
