U.S. Reps. Janice Hahn (D-Calif.) and Ted Poe (R-Texas) have announced the formation of a bipartisan House Ports Opportunity, Renewal, Trade and Security (PORTS) Caucus to promote the importance of U.S. ports to the nation’s economy and the need to secure them.

U.S. ports support 13.3 million jobs and account for $3.15 trillion in business activity to the economy, Hahn says. “As a longtime advocate for the Port of Los Angeles, I understand how vital the ports are for our nation’s economy,” she says.

Poe says promoting and protecting the nation’s ports is critical to both national security and economic security. “I look forward to working with Representative Hahn to building an effective congressional caucus that advocates on the behalf of ports nationwide,” he says.
