ALK Technologies, a provider of geologistics and navigation software, announced that Derek Leathers, president and chief operating officer of Werner Enterprises, will deliver the keynote address at the 2012 ALK Transportation Technology Summit – “Driving Innovation: Connecting Compliance and Efficiency.” Hosted by ALK, the 2012 Transportation Technology Summit is scheduled May 15-17 in Princeton, N.J.

“We are thrilled to have Derek Leathers onboard as our keynote speaker this year,” says Dr. Barry Glick, ALK chief executive officer, who will kick off the program with introductory remarks. “Werner Enterprises began over 50 years ago with one truck – now at the forefront, it is among the five largest truckload carriers in the United States. We look forward to Derek sharing his industry outlook.”

Leathers has worked in the transportation and logistics industry for more than 20 years. Throughout his tenure at Werner, he has held integral roles in many facets of the organization, including the establishment of Werner’s Mexico operations, oversight for all asset-operating groups and leading the launch of Werner Global Logistics, which encompasses transportation management and freight movement within intermodal, ocean, air and brokerage.

Now in its eighth year, this event brings together senior transportation executives and industry thought leaders to highlight cutting-edge technology trends and to share a strategic vision for opportunity and business success. ALK says the conference, themed “Driving Innovation: Connecting Compliance and Efficiency,” will provide transportation, logistics and manufacturing companies with valuable guidance on how to maximize operational efficiency in the recovering economy. Topics include driver performance and operating cost management, safety, compliance and supply chain efficiency, as well as innovations in wireless technology and in-cab solutions.

The symposium offers rewarding discussions with senior executives and customers of leading industry technology providers. Participants will receive the opportunity to debate, benchmark and learn from other leaders through a forum that consists of expert presentations, case studies, panel discussions, facilitated roundtables and networking. Speakers include senior executives from Intermec, McLeod Software, PeopleNet, Qualcomm, TMW Systems, Xata Corp. and numerous others. Presentations and roundtables will address key challenges facing all sectors of the industry today, including truckload, less-than-truckload, intermodal, private fleets, manufacturers and logistics service providers.

Current sponsors include Apacheta Corp., AT&T, Blackbay Ltd., Carrier Logistics, CarrierWeb, EBE Technologies, J.J. Keller & Associates, Manhattan Associates, McLeod Software, PeopleNet, Qualcomm, SMC3, TMW Systems and Xata Corp.

The three-day event held at the Westin Princeton – Forrestal Village includes a golf outing on May 15h at the Tournament Players Club-Jasna Polana in Princeton. A dinner reception on the Princeton University campus will be held on the evening of May 16. For more information, go to www.alk.com/techsummit.
