Remy Inc.’s electric motor division and Via Motors have announced a joint agreement to supply powertrains for the Via Extended-Range Electric Vehicle. Via’s VTrux line of extended-range electric trucks, vans and SUVs are equipped with the company’s eRev powertrain designed to enable the VTrux to drive up to 40 miles in a full-electric near-zero emissions mode achieving an equivalent 100 mpg.

“We are proud to enter this supply agreement with Via,” says Kevin Quinn, Remy’s vice president and global hybrid general manager. “We believe integrating the Remy HVH motor into the Via eRev powertrain will yield a system with unmatched levels of performance, durability and power density in the light-duty commercial segment.”

“Via plans to ramp up production significantly over the next three years to satisfy demand for clean fuel-efficient full-size trucks and SUVs,” says Kraig Higginson, chief executive officer of Via Motors. “We are looking forward to Remy providing a 300 kW traction motor and a 150 kW generator that, when matched with our own inverter, provides a groundbreaking powertrain for our vehicle.”
