Agency OKs camera monitoring system exemption

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has renewed for 90 days a waiver for Transecurity — a company doing research on behalf of the agency — to mount cameras on windshields in up to 500 commercial motor vehicles to monitor both the road and drivers. The waiver is for an FMCSA rule that prohibits devices to be mounted more than 6 inches below the top of the windshield. FMCSA granted the exemption so Transecurity could continue to test the system.

Participating carriers include Eagle Transport in North Carolina, H&W Trucking in North Carolina, Associated Grocers in Louisiana and AM Express in Michigan.
