Updated figures on Pilot settlement terms: Company will pay $85M to class members

As noted Monday in a report on the final court approval of the settlement Pilot Flying J reached with 5,500 trucking companies, the company will pay millions of dollars back to customers for fuel rebates it allegedly withheld, along with 6 percent interest and reimbursement for attorney’s fees and auditing fees.

However, that article said Pilot Flying J had agreed to pay $72 million in the settlement agreement, per documents filed with the court Friday, Nov. 22.

More recent court documents, however, show the number to actually be higher than that. Pilot Flying J will pay out $84.9 million in the settlement.

Here’s the breakdown:

Principle (money owed in fuel rebates): $56.5 million

Interest: $9.75 million

Audit costs: $4.5 million

Attorney’s fees: $14 million (if approved by the court)

Remainder: Attorney’s expenses, incentive awards, fees for notice services, fees for administration services
