New hot states for van: As you can see in the map above from DAT Solutions, van freight on the spot market last week shifted to the states in the darker shades of pink: California, Arizona, Arkansas, Mississippi and Vermont, where the number of van loads well outpaced the number of available trucks. And the most profitable van run? Up the West Coast, from Stockton, Calif., to Seattle, where rates average about $3 a mile:
