HELP Inc., provider of PrePass weigh station bypass services, has expanded its PrePass Plus electronic toll payment services to California and Kansas with its new ElitePass transponder. The company says Oklahoma, Texas and several other states will be online soon.

The ElitePass transponder allows fleets to use one deivce and one account from one service provider to bypass weigh stations in 32 states and electronically pay tolls in 20 states. HELP Inc. says it is the only device in North America that allows weigh station bypass and electronic toll payment services and will allow coast-to-coast bypassing of weigh stations and toll payment for truckers.

“Truckers hate tolls,” said Karen Rasmussen, president and CEO of HELP Inc. “But they are a fact of life for all of us as highway funding becomes tighter. Being able to offer one device for both bypass and payment is a huge benefit for truckers, tolling authorities and the 32 states in our PrePass program.”

To date, there are 46,000 fleets and 530,000 trucks enrolled in the PrePass system. Rasmussen said the company has logged 670 million bypasses since 1997, representing roughly $4.8 billion in operational savings.

HELP Inc. also announced every new PrePass-equipped site will be equipped with a weigh-in-motion scale, and the company is retrofitting a number of existing sites with scales.

“If you are a carrier, you want weigh-in-motion record as a screening tool, and it increases value of bypass,” said Rasmussen. “For state authorities, the fewer trucks queuing up, the more efficient they will be and they can eliminate a hazard on the highway as those trucks otherwise would back up.”
