New Route Parameter Manager Aftermarket Kit Yields Big MPG Gains For 2013 And Newer ISX15-Powered Trucks
Fleets that carry Cummins power have come to expect better fuel economy each year as Cummins continuously enhances ISX15 engines with integrated technology for the lowest cost of operation. ADEPT™ features such as SmartTorque2, SmartCoast™ and Predictive Cruise Control (PCC) have resulted in a significant mpg increase on new X15™ Efficiency Series engines.
But continuous improvement isn’t just for current model engines. Customers who have a 2013 or newer ISX15 rated between 400 hp and 475 hp, mated to an automated manual transmission (AMT) who have already upgraded with SmartTorque2 or SmartCoast technologies can see an additional fuel economy gain of up to 3 percent with the addition of our Route Parameter Manager (RPM) aftermarket kit, which allows for activation of the PCC feature.
Originally available only on new Cummins X15 engines, PCC is now available for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2013 and newer ISX15 engines thanks to the RPM aftermarket kit. Predictive Cruise Control is a technology that “sees” the road 2 kilometers ahead, and adjusts the vehicle speed, slightly increasing road speeds as you approach an incline to build momentum, then rolling back the throttle as you crest the hill. The key element in this aftermarket package is Cummins proprietary RPM aftermarket kit, which provides sophisticated GPS mapping. That enables PCC to use look-ahead technology, and visualize upcoming changes in the road grade and modify operations to take full advantage of vehicle momentum.
PCC works together with SmartCoast and SmartTorque2 features to deliver a fuel-economy improvement of up to as much as 5 percent versus an ISX15 engine without ADEPT. It is the exact same technology utilized in our 2017 X15 Efficiency Series engines.
The RPM aftermarket kit comes complete with the GPS mapping software, installation harness, GPS antenna and datalink Y adapters. Once the kit is installed, a simple recalibration of the Electronic Control Module (ECM) will activate Cummins full suite of ADEPT technologies. The components are warranted by Cummins for 1 year/100,000 miles, and map upgrades are included.
