Trucking news and briefs for Monday, May 11, 2020:

Michigan lifts remaining spring weight restrictions
The Michigan Department of Transportation on Friday, May 8, lifted the last of the spring weight restrictions on all state trunkline highways in the state. State routes typically carry M, I, or U.S. designations.

This spring weight restriction update does not alter or affect the direction given in Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Executive Order 2020-44 (COVID-19), according to MDOT.

Permits will still be required for loads exceeding the normal legal limits.

Small number of Volvo trucks recalled
Volvo Trucks is recalling approximately 23 model year 2020-2021 Volvo VNL and VNR tractors because the steering gear fasteners may not be properly tightened, which could cause loss of control of the truck, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents.

Volvo says affected trucks were manufactured from October 28, 2019 through January 17, 2020.

Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will tighten the fasteners to specification for free. Owners can contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586 with recall number RVXX2001. NHTSA’s recall number is 20V-241.
