TCA recognizes 18 Fleet Safety Award division winners
The Truckload Carriers Association, presenting sponsor Great West Casualty Company and major sponsors Detroit Assurance and DriverReach, have announced the 18 division winners in the 47th Annual TCA Fleet Safety Awards competition.
These annual awards identify truckload carriers that have demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to safety through presenting the lowest accident frequency ratios per million miles in each of six mileage-based divisions.
The 18 division winners are now invited to compete for one of two grand prizes – one for carriers with a total annual mileage less than 25 million miles, and the other for carriers with mileage greater than 25 million miles. Grand prize winners will be announced at Truckload 2023 in Orlando, Florida, set for March 4-7 at the Gaylord Palms. All winners will also receive recognition at TCA’s 2023 Safety & Security Meeting on June 11-13 in San Antonio, Texas.

Yokohama recalling 6,000 drive, trailer tires
Yokohama Tire Corporation has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is voluntarily recalling two sizes of commercial tires.
The 295/75R22.5 TY517 MC2 drive tire and BluEarth 109L trailer tire in the same size were manufactured at Yokohama’s plant in West Point, Mississippi, between May 29 and June 4, 2022.
A total 68 TY517 MC2 and three BluEarth 109L tires are believed to be affected, but out of an abundance of caution, 6,125 tires are being recalled.
The recall, initiated in accordance with NHTSA regulations, was issued because the tires may have been manufactured with an improperly manufactured compound. Yokohama said there is potential for a portion of the tread to separate from the casing of the tire, increasing the risk of a crash.
C.H. Robinson names retired UPS COO to board of directors
C.H. Robinson Worldwide announced Friday that its Board of Directors has appointed Jim Barber as a new director.
Barber retired as the Chief Operating Officer for UPS (CCJ Top 250, No. 2) in January 2020. In this role, he was responsible for international operations, U.S. operations, freight forwarding, distribution and logistics, freight brokerage, customs brokerage and more.
“I am honored to join C.H. Robinson’s Board of Directors,” Barber said. “C.H. Robinson is a highly regarded market leader known for its customer-centric execution, transformational technology and strong financial performance. I believe the company is well positioned for future success, and I look forward to adding my insights and voice to the Board.”
Prior to his appointment as COO, he served as President of UPS International from 2013-2018, where he had responsibility for distribution, forwarding, small-package delivery, brokerage, customs compliance, and UPS's other service offerings in more than 220 countries and territories outside the U.S.

Barber, 62, currently sits on the Board of Directors at US Foods, serving in this capacity since May 2022, and is a member of US Food’s Compensation and Human Capital Committee. Barber previously served on the boards of UNICEF USA and the Folks Center for International Business at the University of South Carolina. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Auburn University.
