Survey: Speed limiter usage widespread among fleets, ELD adoption flat despite mandate

More than 85 percent of fleet respondents in a recent survey equip their fleet’s trucks with speed limiters, according to a survey performed this year by the American Transportation Research Institute. The survey also showed adoption of electronic logging devices in 2015 was flat compared to 2014.

This graph from DAT shows the recent Hanjin-caused jump in outbound loads in the Los Angeles area. “The bar graphs below tell the rest of the story: Load posts increased dramatically, to more than 4,000 per day instead of 2,000, while truck posts declined from about 900 per day to between 600 and 700 per day,” says DAT’s Peggy Dorf. These two factors have created a load-to-truck imbalance, which puts upward pressure on rates.
