One of the nation’s largest trucking companies, Schneider National (CCJ Top 250, No. 6), is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2025.

From a single truck in 1935, Schneider has grown to have more than 12,000 tractors on the road today.

On Thursday, June 12, the company marked the 90th anniversary milestone with a special event at its Green Bay headquarters honoring its rich history, the people who have driven its success, and its promising future.

Founded by Al Schneider with a vision to build something extraordinary, the company has grown into a multimodal powerhouse with 19,400 associates and 12,500 trucks, logging over 9 million freight miles daily .

“Reaching 90 years is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the dedication of our current and former associates,” said Schneider President and CEO Mark Rourke. “From Al Schneider’s first delivery to our nearly 14,000 company drivers today, our story is one of innovation, adaptability, and a steadfast commitment to providing safe and reliable service to our customers.”

Last week’s event included the induction of 30 new drivers to Schneider’s “Haul of Fame,” a special recognition for those who have achieved at least 3 million safe driving miles or 20 consecutive years without a preventable accident. For the first time in company history, five company drivers will receive their 4 million safe mile awards in the same year, and one driver achieved 5 million safe miles. There are only 435 drivers who have earned a plaque on the Haul of Fame wall.

As Schneider looks ahead, it continues to invest in strategic growth areas, including intermodal and cross-border services, particularly in Mexico, as well as further organic and acquisitive growth in Dedicated services.

“We’re not just celebrating our past – we’re accelerating into the future,” said Rourke. “Our strong foundation in service, safety and operational excellence, paired with our associates and an openness to change anything but our values, ensures we’ll continue to set the standard for decades to come.”

TMC Transportation opens new South Carolina terminal

TMC Transportation (CCJ Top 250, No. 41) celebrated the grand opening of its new terminal at 154 Shop Grove Drive in Columbia, South Carolina, on Tuesday, June 10.

At the open house and ribbon cutting ceremony, TMC employee-owners gathered with customers and business partners to celebrate the new facility. Two NASCAR luminaries – Xfinity Series rising star Sammy Smith and racing legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. – were also in attendance to sign autographs and help TMC commemorate this company milestone.

“I want to thank the University of South Carolina, our drivers, our employees, Montgomery Construction, the City of Columbia, Richland County, our customers and all of our vendors. Without you guys, we wouldn’t be here today,” TMC President Travis Johnson said at the event.

For the new campus, TMC added an administration building and state-of-the-art maintenance shop next to its existing driver training center, allowing the company to consolidate its Columbia-area operations, which were previously spread out over several locations. This will facilitate increased collaboration, greater business efficiencies and improved service for customers and drivers.

The new terminal is an investment of more than $40 million in not only the future of TMC’s business but also the economy and workforce of the region. It will enable TMC to expand its customer base throughout the Southeast and hire additional local office staff, maintenance technicians and drivers.

“It’s a beautiful facility, and I hope it shows our commitment to the community, to our office staff and to our drivers. We’re going to be here for the long haul,” Johnson said.

TMC employee-owners have been working in the new buildings since late March, but the grand opening served as an opportunity to mark the start of the next era for the company.

CAT Scale app updated to allow spread-axle weighs

CAT Scale has released updates for both the iOS and Android versions of its Weigh My Truck app that now allow drivers to perform spread-axle weighments. For the first time, drivers needing spread-axle weights can get a certified gross weight along with individual axle weights -- all guaranteed by CAT Scale.

To use the new feature, drivers will need to enable the option in their Weigh My Truck account profile in the vehicle information section. Once the split weigh feature is enabled, drivers will be able to perform certified spread-axle weighing through the app.

How it works: Drivers will pull onto the scale in the normal position, open the app and start the weighing process. A prompt will appear for drivers to choose “Standard Weigh” or “Split Axle Weigh.” When the driver selects “Split Axle Weigh,” they will be prompted to enter the required information and accept the fee. The driver will then be prompted to slowly exit the scale while the trailer axle weights are captured in motion. At this point, the weigh will be complete, payment authorized, and the weights will show on screen for the driver with a locked PDF copy scale ticket immediately emailed to them.

The Weigh My Truck app allows drivers to weigh, pay and see their weights on their device without leaving the cab, saving significant time. Fleets have the option to set up a profile to get back-end data, manage driver access and more.
