Luma, an instructional design and learning company, announces new features in the online DRIVE FIRST platform that enable motor carriers to further streamline the efficiency and effectiveness of driver hiring and orientation training.

Luma says DRIVE FIRST has been deployed by a fast-growing and diverse group of carriers since its launch in September, 2017. With the platform, carriers are able to assign company-specific employment forms, training and assessments to drivers to complete before, during or after scheduled in-class orientation meetingsDRIVE FIRST platform.

“Given the extremely tight labor market, motor carriers are always looking for ways to differentiate their value to drivers. With DRIVE FIRST, carriers are able to make an immediate impression by showing drivers they value their time while setting them up for success on the road,” said Gina Anderson, Ed.D., chief executive officer of Luma.

To give carriers more ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of driver orientation and onboarding, Luma has added these and other new features to DRIVE FIRST:

  • A Luma File Cabinet feature that makes digital employment forms and data quickly accessible. The new feature helps carriers manage driver qualifications, among other benefits. Carriers can assign digital employment forms to drivers to complete and sign online. Certain fields auto-populate across forms to improve efficiency.
  • Embedded transcripts that give drivers the option to have forms, the training platform, and training content translated to them so they can read or hear it in their native languages to optimize the learning experience.

The DRIVE FIRST training collection comes with more than 100 individual learning modules, called eNuggets, that cover a variety of safety, compliance and orientation topics. All of the eNuggets can be customized to include company-specific policies and procedures.

Luma uses research-based instructional design methods that keep drivers engaged and real-time data and feedback to continually improve the learning experience for drivers.

“We are a learning company and everything we do is based on learning science,” Anderson said. “DRIVE FIRST uniquely delivers content to drivers in the ways they prefer to make it even more effective. We are changing the perception of what driver training should be.”

Premium Transportation Logistics (PTL) has eliminated paperwork from its driver orientation and onboarding process by using DRIVE FIRST for electronic documentation and online learning.

Unnamed 2018 05 14 12 08“DRIVE FIRST has made us more efficient in delivering training and documents to drivers, who mostly access the platform on their smartphones,” said Jeff Curry, president of the Toledo, Ohio-based nationwide ground transportation and logistics services provider. “We have used other programs, and nothing compares to DRIVE FIRST. It is based on the science of education and gamification, and has a built-in process for driver feedback, a variety of learning methods, and remarkable and attentive customer service.”

PTL also uses DRIVE FIRST to assign ongoing monthly training to all drivers, who can review the interactive eNugget training modules at their own pace anytime, anywhere.

“DRIVE FIRST has been a big hit with our drivers,” Curry added.

Luma offers DRIVE FIRST to the trucking industry as a monthly subscription based on each carrier’s estimated usage. No long-term contracts are required to deploy and customize the orientation and onboarding platform for individual client needs.

Luma also announces it was recently approved by FedEx Ground to be its driver safety training vendor. FedEx uses the DRIVE SAFE platform that Luma developed in partnership with Stay Metrics. Additionally, the Women in Trucking Association recognized Luma as a Top 20 Women-Owned Businesses in the Spring issue of its official magazine, Redefining the Road.
