Recall report: Faulty shims impact 5,700 trailers; Navistar's driveshaft problem and Yokohama's voluntary recall

The following safety recalls were issued Monday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • Entrans International is recalling certain 2023 Polar Tank SCX9 trailers. The trailers may have been produced without a rear impact guard certification plate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 223, "Rear Impact Guards" and 224, "Rear Impact Protection." Rear impact guards with missing plates may not be identified in the event of a safety recall, potentially resulting in an un-remedied safety issue and an increased risk of a crash or injury. NHTSA says potentially 75 units are affected by the recall.
  • Navistar is recalling certain 2023 International MV and International HV vehicles. The driveshafts can break under certain loading conditions. A broken driveshaft can separate and cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. NHTSA says potentially 624 units are affected by the recall.
  • Trail King Industries is recalling certain 1992-2023 TKFA, TKPA, AB, and AB EXT trailers equipped with pin-on axles or pivot extensions. The shims that transfer weight between the trailer and the pin-on axle may detach if the air line or air suspension lose compression. Detached shims can fall into the roadway and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. NHTSA says potentially 5,641 units are affected by the recall
  • Yokohama Tire Corporation also notified NHTSA on Friday that it is voluntarily recalling one size of the 504C. A total of 6,992 of size 11R22.5 manufactured at Yokohama’s plant in West Point, Mississippi between June 27, 2022 and Dec. 4, 2022 are being recalled. The recall, initiated in accordance with NHTSA regulations, was issued because the tires may have been manufactured with an improperly manufactured Belt Cushion Splice. There is potential for air to migrate into the sidewall, increasing the risk of a crash. NHTSA says potentially 6,992 units are affected by the recall
