MAKING CONNECTIONS

When it comes time to splice wires, here’re a couple tips to make it last

Wiring problems are a common occurrence with vehicles and trailers used in a harsh environment or that are getting along in years.

Preventive maintenance and proper wiring techniques can eliminate many such issues.

(It can be really be a pain to have to postpone towing your work trailer to a job until you get those brake lights fixed.)

We’ve found that those quick-and-easy, snap-type connectors are neither as secure nor corrosion-resistant as the Western Union splice (right).

This is  simple, yet very strong and reliable splice for use on trailer wiring or anywhere in a vehicle.

And instead of just wrapping the splice with electrical tape,  use shrink tubing that seals tightly when heated by a small flame.

Or another excellent choice is brushing on Permatex’s Liquid Electrical Tape, a weatherproof coating that can be applied in tight areas where roll-tape can’t reach.-Pro
