Lots of cool truck news is pouring in out of Detroit this week.
Ford pulled the curtain back on the highly-anticipated F-150. We got a good and up-close look at the 2015 GMC Canyon, which was also expected.
What wasn’t necessarily on the radar was the insanely awesome FT-1 concept that Toyota put on display at the Detroit Auto Show Monday.
There was no tease. No buildup. Just “BOOM!” Here’s a car.
There’s a strong Supra feel to this baby, and with that long and distinct nose, bloodlines from the 2000GT are evident as well.
Kevin Hunter, President of Toyota’s CALTY design center which created the car, says the FT actually stands for “Future Toyota,” so keep your fingers crossed. For now, you’ll have to be satisfied taking the car for a virtual spin. It’s a downloadable vehicle for the racing simulator Gran Turismo 6.
When Toyota let the cat out of the bag, the car was unveiled without specs, so let your imaginations run wild. My imagination has already made this car an instant legend on the road.
I’m betting against seeing a production version of this car, but I think we’ll see this package in some form sooner rather than later.
According to Toyota, “the FT-1 concept is a symbol that captures elements of the emotion and energy we can expect to see in future Toyota vehicles designs.”
Hmmm… “…we can expect to see in future Toyota vehicles designs.”
The Supra has a strong almost Cult-like following, and the pressure to bring the car back has been mounting for years. Now that the public has gotten an eye-full of what this generation of Toyota designers and engineers are capable of stamping out, they must be near fever-pitch.
