SKF Automotive announced a new seal for vocational trucks. The CR Scotseal X-Treme HD is designed for demanding operating environments, the company says, including waste management, construction, mining and forestry.
The seals feature a patented labyrinth design and multiple sealing elements that prevent contaminants from entering and lubricants from escaping the wheel end assembly, reducing unscheduled wheel and maintenance events.

"The CR brand has a 130-year-plus history as a leading industrial and automotive North American seal manufacturer," says Cengiz Shevket, vice president of innovation and business development, reliability solutions. "When SKF acquired Chicago Rawhide and the CR brand in 1990, we understood how important the iconic Chicago Rawhide name was to our seal customers. SKF's Scotseal X-Treme HD builds on that foundation of trust and reliability, utilizing new materials and technologies that provide our customers with peace of mind they are familiar with when choosing one of our products."
Features and benefits of the new seal include:
- An enhanced application-specific design with multiple dirt-excluding sealing lips, a labyrinth design and a primary oil sealing lip with CR Waveseal technology to address sealing challenges in vocational applications. A third metal unitizer ring safeguards the sealing lip during installation and maintenance.
- The seals are crafted with NHBRX material for heat resistance and durability. The EPDM inner diameter ensures proper seal-to-sleeve positioning for optimal performance after assembly on the spindle.
