Hours of service regs waived in Nebraska for fuel haulers

Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts on Tuesday issued an emergency declaration related to “fuel shortages due to high demand for petroleum products,” waiving hours of service regulations for certain fuel haulers.

The declaration allows for a temporary waiver of Part 395 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations “for the limited purpose of hauling gasoline or gasoline blends, diesel, fuel oil, ethanol, propane, and biodiesel.”

Drivers operating under the waiver are required to carry a copy of the declaration with them “as evidence of their direct support to the state of Nebraska during this emergency period.”

The waiver is effective immediately and will remain in effect through Nov. 30.

Ryder acquires e-commerce distribution firm

Ryder System (CCJ Top 250, No. 14) on Wednesday acquired Dotcom Distribution, a provider of omnichannel fulfillment and distribution services for high-growth retail and e-commerce brands specializing in health, beauty and cosmetics, and fashion and apparel.

Earlier this year, Ryder announced the acquisition of another e-commerce and omnichannel fulfillment provider, Whiplash. This recent acquisition allows Ryder to expand its e-fulfillment portfolio in new industry verticals in health, beauty and cosmetics, and increase its national footprint with the addition of a 400,000-square-foot multiclient fulfillment facility in Edison, New Jersey.

Dotcom Distribution’s leadership team, including founder and CEO Maria Haggerty, will join Ryder.

“Dotcom Distribution has been doing e-fulfillment since e-commerce was still in its infancy,” said Steve Sensing, president of supply chain solutions for Ryder. “Maria and her team bring 22 years of knowledge, expertise, and experience in helping customers weather market fluctuations. That’s a big benefit for Ryder.”

Ryder’s e-commerce and omnichannel fulfillment solution now delivers to 100% of the U.S. within two days and 60% of the U.S. within one day.
