The survey suggests the slow but upward growth of the economy is moving the freight market to a higher level.

Report confirms restocking bolstered January freight
By all accounts, January was a strong month for freight, and now we know one of the big reasons why. Manufacturing and trade inventories at the end of January were up 1% from December. That’s the largest month-to-month gain since another 1% increase in May 2011. The increases were particularly strong at the retail and wholesale level, which saw month-to-month gains of 1.5% and 1.2%, respectively.

ATA Tonnage Index gains some lost ground
After falling 0.9 percent in August, the American Trucking Associations’ seasonally adjusted For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index rose 0.4 percent in September, bringing the index to 118.7.
