Purkeys most recent maintenance tips video offers insights on how to best manage the company’s Capacitor Actuated Portable Starter (CAPS).
Besides offering tips on how to best maintain CAPS, Purkeys Sales and Service Engineer Larry Rambeaux also talks about the charger’s operating features.
CAPS is designed for safe and easy-to-use jump starting for heavy and light-duty applications.
“It can charge, discharge, and then recharge faster than any lead-acid, battery-powered jump starter,” Purkeys states in a press release. “It is lighter and more portable as well.”
CAPS’ is powered by its ultracapacitor. This ultracapacitor is kept at 100 percent state of charge by a small AGM battery inside of CAPS. That battery must stay charged to make sure CAPS is always ready to use.
This system comes with a small AC-to-DC battery charger that is rated at six amps, which is more than enough capacity to keep the internal AGM battery at a 100 percent state of charge.
When the CAPS is not in use keep the charger plugged into the system. It is a full-floating charger, so it will not overcharge or damage the system.
Another way to keep CAPS charged is to use a vehicle. After the vehicle is jumped, leave the CAPS connected for roughly three minutes, it will recharge and be ready to start the next vehicle.
“The CAPS is a great device to use to jump start vehicles,” Rambeaux said. “But it is only a storage device, so you have to make sure it stays plugged in and maintained. That way when you need it, it is ready to go.”
