Selected from hundreds of nominated companies across the Detroit area, third-party logistics provider NLM says it has been recognized for the second consecutive year as one of Metro Detroit’s 101 Best & Brightest Companies to Work For. The award, given by the Michigan Business & Professional Association, will be presented on Nov. 20 at the Conference and Events Center in Dearborn, Mich.

NLM says it earned the recognition by proving its commitment to employee satisfaction, growth and retention. The award allows businesses to exhibit to employees, clients, vendors and to the business community why they are an ideal place to work. Winning companies were evaluated in the following areas: communication, community initiative, compensation and benefits, diversity and multiculturalism, employee education and development, employee engagement and commitment, recognition and retention, recruitment and selection, and work-life balance.

“This year we were inundated with nominations,” says Jennifer Kluge, MBPA chief operating officer and a veteran human resources manager. “Metro Detroit companies such as NLM realize that their employees are key to business success. The companies that were selected demonstrated innovative human recourse practices. They intentionally keep employee needs at the forefront of their policies.”

Headquartered in Detroit’s inner city since its founding in 1987, NLM strives to ensure employees feel as though they are part of something more than their job and encourages them to be active within the inner city community. As part of NLM’s continuous commitment to support Detroit’s inner-city neighborhood, employees are active in various community initiatives. NLM employees spearhead and help strengthen initiatives in a wide range of community organizations such as Action on Joy Road, the Adopt-A-School Program Business Initiative at Sherrill School, Cornerstone Schools and Christ Child House.

“It is an honor to receive this distinguished recognition for the second consecutive year,” says Greg Humes, president of NLM. “We have worked diligently to create an open, collaborative environment for our employees, one that strongly values teamwork and customer service. This spirited approach to success is fostered in all of the talented individuals within NLM – whether manager, entry-level associate or intern – who through our close-knit environment feel they have a vested interest in NLM’s future.”
