Menlo Worldwide Logistics, the global logistics subsidiary of Con-way Inc., announced that it has expanded its relationship with Maquet Cardiovascular, a division of Maquet GmbH & Co. KG. Menlo is taking on new duties for inbound transportation, warehousing and outbound transportation management in Europe for products manufactured in the United States by Datascope, which was acquired by Maquet in January.
Maquet Cardiovascular develops and manufactures intra-aortic balloon pumps, in addition to vascular grafts and patches in Fairfield and Mahwah, N.J. The company previously managed its own transportation and distribution to European customers. Now, following its acquisition by Maquet, the Datascope products are being transitioned into Maquet’s European supply chain operations managed by Menlo through its multiclient warehouse in Eersel, The Netherlands.
“Incorporating the Maquet Cardiovascular products into our operations at Eersel allows us to leverage our successful existing global supply chain, as well as the proven expertise and superior IT platform that Menlo provides,” says Rob Stoopman, managing director for Maquet The Netherlands. “Through merging the new products into our existing Eersel systems, we will be able to achieve annual outbound transportation cost savings of 30 percent.”
Under the expanded relationship with Maquet, Menlo will manage all inbound airfreight from Maquet Cardiovascular’s New Jersey production plant to its multiclient warehouse in Eersel. The Eersel facility will process nearly 13,000 outbound orders annually, performing all warehousing activities for some 350 separate products. The work scope ultimately will include transportation management for outbound orders, using parcel delivery services to customer destinations in seven European countries.
Menlo says it will continue to use Maquet Cardiovascular’s supply chain software while integrating it into Menlo’s advanced IT solutions on site. Menlo says that by utilizing its multiclient warehouse management solution, Maquet also gains flexibility in contract commitment length, an experienced management and labor infrastructure, requisite equipment and assets, and an extensive global network of preconfigured warehouse operations.
“By integrating the Maquet Cardiovascular products into its existing global supply chain, Maquet is able to gain cost savings, flexibility, shared resources and the significant expertise we offer through our multiclient warehouse management solution,” says Robert Bianco Jr., president of Menlo Worldwide Logistics, based in San Mateo, Calif. “We look forward to continuing to support Maquet’s expansion and finding new ways to optimize its supply chain and help it win in the marketplace.”
Internationally, Menlo maintains multiclient network facilities in Mexico, Canada, Asia and Europe. Its U.S. locations include Atlanta; Dallas; Cranbury, N.J.; Fontana and Fremont, Calif.; and Portland, Ore.
