Con-way Freight announced that it has been named 2008 LTL Carrier of the Year by Whirlpool Corp. The award was presented at Whirlpool Corp.’s annual carrier conference, which was held at the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Ind.

Whirlpool Corp. measures its transportation providers’ performance monthly on a range of criteria, including on-time delivery, invoicing, claims incidence and problem resolution. Con-way Freight has provided less-than-truckload service to Whirlpool for eight years, serving its inbound transportation needs moving LTL freight from plants to production facilities.

“Con-way Freight has been an important means to support our just-in-time philosophy,” says Kevin O’Meara, director of supply chain for Whirlpool. “We hold our carriers to high performance standards. Con-way Freight has demonstrated its commitment to delivering the very best to ensure we meet our customer commitments. We congratulate Con-way Freight on this well-deserved accomplishment.”

Whirlpool launched its carrier award program in 2005 to recognize transportation providers for outstanding service in the categories of LTL, Truckload, Intermodal, Small Pack and Regional transportation.

“It’s gratifying to know we’ve contributed to Whirlpool Corporation’s success, and we look forward to continuing our relationship well into the future,” says John G. Labrie, president of Con-way Freight, based in Ann Arbor, Mich. “Thank you, and congratulations to all of the dedicated Con-way Freight professionals who made this award possible.”
