Menlo opens Chicago-area export facility for Caterpillar

Menlo Worldwide Logistics, the global logistics subsidiary of Con-way Inc., announced that it has created an export logistics center for Caterpillar Inc. with the opening of a dedicated Midwest-area export logistics center in Joliet, Ill. Initial activities will occupy 202,000 square feet of the 350,000-square-foot building, allowing for future expansion.

“As soon as we started talking with Caterpillar, it was apparent that there is strong cultural and business alignment between our companies,” says Robert L. Bianco Jr., president of Menlo Worldwide Logistics, based in San Mateo, Calif. “We share a commitment to Lean principles, and our core values are very similar. We know we can provide the speed, cost and quality they want.”

Under the new relationship, Menlo will provide export consolidation services, including receiving, export packaging and loading/shipping.
