Echo Global Logistics Inc. announced that it has joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport Partnership, an initiative with the goal of environmentally cleaner, more fuel-efficient transportation options.

Echo says that after a comprehensive review of company operations, it was given the score of 1.25, which is the highest possible rating and represents “outstanding environmental performance.” Partners with scores of 1.25 are awarded the honor of displaying the SmartWay Transport Partner logo, EPA’s symbol for superior fuel efficiency and environmental performance.

“Echo is proud to be a part of such an admirable program,” says Douglas Waggoner, chief executive officer of the Chicago-based company. “We understand the importance of protecting the environment, and we strive to reduce the footprint of the overall transportation industry by aggressively pursuing sustainable practices.”

The SmartWay Transport Partnership is a collaborative program developed by EPA and the U.S. freight industry to reduce transportation-related emissions and to promote environmentally cleaner, more fuel-efficient transportation options. With more than 1,000 partners, SmartWay represents a joint endeavor among government, business and consumers to make a positive impact on the environment.
