David Congdon, president and chief executive officer of Old Dominion Freight Line Inc., recently was honored as the 2010 Triad Area Business Leader of the Year. The award is selected by a panel of local business and civic leaders and is given to the individual that demonstrates significant business accomplishment as a leader in the Triad area.

Congdon – who received the award May 3 at the Business Leader Media Hall of Fame Awards in Greensboro, N.C. – began his career with Thomasville-based Old Dominion in 1978 and has served at the leadership level since becoming the president and chief operating officer in 1997. In 2008, he was appointed as president and CEO of the company.

“I am tremendously grateful to my fellow local-area entrepreneurs and business leaders for considering me for this award,” Congdon says. “At Old Dominion, we are in the business of keeping promises, and we strive to exemplify that in everything we do, especially at the leadership level. This award is a reflection of the integrity of Old Dominion, its customers and its employees.”
