MTS Driver Recruiters touts Temp-to-Hire program

As fleet operators begin to ramp up capacity to meet increasing freight demand, many are reluctant to commit to long-term assets and costly personnel, fearing that the recent economic upturn may not continue. MTS Driver Recruiters, a specialist provider of recruitment process outsourcing to the transportation/logistics industry, has introduced a Temp-to-Hire program that allows fleet managers to recruit and utilize experienced drivers on MTS’ payroll as needed, and then transfer drivers of the fleet’s choosing to their own payroll, at no additional cost, as the stability of new business is validated over time, normally 90-180 days or more.

“Our goal is to allow our clients to have the flexibility to ramp their fleet up or down, without incurring recruiting costs or hiring commitments, then bring those temporary drivers who are the right fit onto their own payroll as demand stabilizes,” says MTS Driver Recruiters principal Ken Walker. “Our Temp-to-Hire program is ideal for startup operations, expansion projects or when it’s uncertain that the demand will be sustained. The depth of our resources is especially beneficial when a fleet needs to be staffed in a remote area. The elimination of all recruiting expenses and the ability to hire the better drivers cost-free has made the program a no-brainer for our expanding clients.”

MTS says it conducts a targeted search in accordance with the fleet’s normal hiring criteria coupled with its national database of more than 340,000 commercial truck drivers, allowing MTS to quickly deliver experienced truck drivers who match the client’s specifications, using customized in-depth screening and qualification processes. MTS handles all advertising, background checks and U.S. Department of Transportation compliance, and removes the liability of hiring untested drivers. Fleet operators also have the option of sending their own walk-in applicants and respondents to MTS to be screened, processed and employed by MTS for a temporary period.

MTS, based in Southfield, Mich., built its business on a promise to reduce fleet recruiting expenditures by a minimum of 25-50 percent compared to internally-managed recruiting programs, and the company says this commitment extends to the Temp-to-Hire program. “MTS strives to be the easiest and least expensive way to recruit truck drivers, and this no-risk program, with no additional fees to convert from temporary to direct hire, solidifies this position,” Walker says. “Depending on your policies and your requirements, you have the option to stick with temp drivers or convert some or all to permanent employees. You get qualified drivers, when and where you need them.”
