Averitt Express is expanding its flatbed operation that it launched earlier this year. For several months Averitt has been offering flatbed services in markets such as Birmingham, Ala.; Atlanta; Cincinnati; Louisville, Ky.; and Nashville, Tenn., but says it now is expanding those services due to customer demand.

What started out as a 12-flatbed trailer operation has multiplied into a current fleet of more than 50 flatbeds, with about 50 additional flatbed trailers on order, says Phil Pierce, Averitt’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. As a result of the expansion, Averitt says it’s currently hiring regional flatbed drivers in several locations.

“Customer feedback indicated a demand for flatbed services in several areas across our network, so it was a logical line extension for us,” Pierce says. “We’re excited about the success we’ve seen thus far, and we’re planning for even more growth in the future.”
