Iteris Inc., a provider in the traffic management market that focuses on the application and development of advanced technologies, on Friday, Oct. 15, announced an agreement with Qualcomm Inc., a provider of integrated wireless systems and services to transportation and logistics companies, to deliver safety data to trucking fleets. The data will be captured by Iteris’ Lane Departure Warning systems and Meritor WABCO’s SmartTrac and OnGuard active safety systems via Qualcomm’s Mobile Computing Platform 100 and 200 Series.
“This agreement enables Iteris and Meritor WABCO to integrate best-in-class driver performance and safety data for fleets with Qualcomm’s industry-leading Mobile Computing Platform Series,” says Abbas Mohaddes, president and chief executive officer of Iteris.
The solution by Iteris, Meritor WABCO and Qualcomm is designed to provide a single point of access to synchronize and review driver performance data on braking events, stability control events, following distances and lane-departure warnings for individual drivers as well as the entire fleet. It uses information transmitted from the vehicle by the fleet’s mobile computing platform to provide fleet operators with fleetwide safety summaries and the ability to drill down to detailed information on individual drivers and events. Iteris says the solution enhances Qualcomm’s Analytics Manager service, which takes data from numerous sources and converts it into actionable information by leveraging visual tools such as dashboards, graphs and tables.
The result, according to Iteris, is a holistic view into a fleet’s operational and safety performance, and the ability to make timelier and more informed business decisions. With this solution, fleet managers at transportation and logistics companies using Qualcomm’s onboard fleet management technology can identify risky driving behavior more easily and provide drivers with the training that the fleet managers deem appropriate to reinforce safe driving practices.
“Iteris’ SafetyDirect is an ideal complement to Qualcomm’s extensive suite of safety services,” says Norm Ellis, vice president of sales, services and marketing for Qualcomm Enterprise Services. “Iteris and Meritor WABCO possess unique high-value truck safety data, which can help further enhance the comprehensive safety profile for Qualcomm’s fleet customers.”
“We are pleased to launch SafetyDirect to our North American customers,” says Jon Morrison, president and general manager of Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems. “We fully expect the system to revolutionize the way fleets monitor report and capture safety data. By integrating data from our company’s SmartTrac and OnGuard active safety systems into Iteris’ SafetyDirect and lane-departure warning systems, it’s easier for fleet managers to collect the information they need to meet and improve safety and business goals.”
