Shortly after taking an ownership stake in DriverTech, Rand McNally announced some enhancements to the DriverTech TruckPC on-board computing platform. Rand McNally made the announcement at the American Trucking Association’s conference in Phoenix.

Rand McNally has the exclusive license for TruckPC in the truckload market and will provide funding for future development of TruckPC applications and releases. Rand McNally Truck PC, powered by DriverTech, utilizes Rand McNally’s IntelliRoute TND truck navigation on DriverTech’s secure TruckPC platform.

Rand McNally announced it will continue to develop the TruckPC’s advanced, driver-friendly interface which resembles the intuitive touch-screen display of the Apple iPhone, only with a much larger screen. When in motion, the TruckPC changes to driving mode and suppresses access to all but the most critical applications and information.

Rand McNally expects the following new features to be completed by the end of the first quarter 2011:

• Features of IntelliRoute TND navigation will be resident on the in-cab device, including enhanced driver warnings, updated road data, and Rand McNally’s proprietary trucking data.

• Integration of a solid state hard drive will improve reliability and provide a longer life span. A faster processor and up to 2G of memory will enable faster performance and more storage on the device.

• The addition of TruckPC Workflow, a way to manage the driver’s daily tasks, will provide interactive updates from the cab to the back office. Multi-media capabilities and a customizable process allow documents such as bills of lading, instructional videos, and other details to be shared with drivers.
