ArvinMeritor Inc. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, hosted government officials, community leaders and customers at a groundbreaking ceremony for its new technical center and manufacturing facility in Nanjing, located in the Jiangsu Province, that also will become ArvinMeritor’s central Aftermarket center in China.

The company says it is investing about $16 million in a 32,000-square-meter facility that will accelerate its ability to provide dedicated engineering capabilities, advanced product solutions and localized production for its customers in China. When fully operational, the facility will staff about 500 employees.

“To support our growth objectives in China, we are expanding our manufacturing footprint and engineering capabilities to design, test and validate our products in China,” says Tim Bowes, president of Industrial and Asia Pacific for ArvinMeritor. “This facility will enable us to provide advanced solutions in drivetrain and braking products to our growing customer base in China.”

Of the total $16 million investment, the company will invest about $8 million in a design and engineering center, which will become the newest addition to ArvinMeritor’s global engineering network that also includes centers in the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom and India. ArvinMeritor plans to work with local universities, as part of an engineering and business development program, to assist the company in developing a highly-skilled talent pool to support its technical, manufacturing and business activities in Nanjing.
