TransCore’s Canadian Freight Index sets new record high

TransCore announced Monday, April 18, that its Canadian Freight Index set a new all-time record high in March, topping the previous record from May 2008. Volumes for March 2011 were up 35 percent from the previous year and 36 percent from the prior month.

For the first quarter of 2011, volume was up 34 percent compared to the first quarter of 2010 and saw a 250 percent increase from March 2009.

While load volume reached an all-time high, equipment postings remained at the same low levels recorded for the prior few months. From a historical perspective, available posted equipment was down 24 percent from the capacity levels of March 2009.
