Meritor Wabco Vehicle Control Systems and Takata Corp.’s U.S. subsidiary, TK Holdings Inc., have signed a letter of intent to establish a strategic alliance in which the companies will work together to develop new active safety systems products for North American commercial vehicles. Meritor also announced that its Meritor Mobile sales and service information tool now is available for free download through the Apple App store and iTunes.

Meritor Wabco will market and distribute Takata’s SafeTrak lane departure warning systems – Truck Interface Module and Fleet Management Portal. “Takata’s products perfectly complement and enhance our current active safety systems such as OnGuard and SmartTrac,” say Jon Morrison, president, Meritor Wabco. “We’re confident our customers will appreciate and embrace still another progressive step in our ‘Pyramid of Safety.’ ” An added bonus to end users will be extensive yet streamlined data management capability to contribute to smarter fleet safety management.

Takata’s Lane Departure Warning system is designed to assist a driver in avoiding an unintentional departure from a lane or the road by providing warnings to the driver when certain events occur. The product complements Takata’s other electronic products that include collision sensors, electronic control units, occupant classification systems and other safety-related electronics.

Meritor Mobile is designed to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of sales and service personnel in the commercial vehicle industry, providing a portfolio of Meritor’s sales, maintenance and technical information in an intuitive, easy-to-use format. Meritor Mobile is the public version of the Meritor iPad application used by its North American Field Operations sales team. Meritor’s extensive product portfolio and exceptional customer services are featured through nearly 800 files, including brochures, maintenance manuals, parts books, technical bulletins, images and videos.

“After the success we have seen with our North American Field Operations team utilizing the iPad sales tool, it made sense to roll this out publicly and give our customers a tool that will enhance their sales and service effectiveness,” says Matthew Stevenson, general manager, North American Field Operations and Marketing, Meritor. “Users will now have key Meritor product information literally at their fingertips further strengthening our commitment to innovation.”
