The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued a final rule that amends the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations to incorporate by reference the most recent edition of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators’ Commercial Driver’s License Information System State Procedures Manual.

FMCSA’s final rule requires all state driver licensing agencies to use this recent edition of the manual to develop the process required to transmit, receive, record and update information on a CDLIS driver record. This information includes, but is not limited to, the commercial driver’s license holder’s physical description, commercial and noncommercial driving status, medical certification status, convictions, disqualifications and accidents.

The final rule is intended to ensure the uniform enforcement of CDLIS procedures across all states. For more information, go to www.regulations.gov; the docket number is FMCSA-2011-0039.
