Meritor Inc. announced the winners of the 2011 Aftermarket Performance System awards, an internal recognition of its global aftermarket facilities that achieved the best performance in lean implementation. In 2011, 18 Meritor aftermarket locations in 10 countries on five continents were evaluated in five areas of performance: safety, quality, delivery, cost/productivity and people.

This year’s winners are Parts Distribution Center of Florence, Ky., Platinum; North America Reman Operations of Plainfield, Ind., Gold; and Parts Distribution Center of Monterrey, Mexico, Silver. The three winning Aftermarket facilities were honored with a crystal statue signifying the successful implementation of lean manufacturing.

“Each year, our global teams put forth a dedicated effort to implement lean manufacturing and successfully deliver quality products to our customers on time,” says Joe Mejaly, president, aftermarket and trailer, Meritor. “It’s an honor to recognize their hard work throughout this year and to present our dedicated employees with these aftermarket performance awards. Lean manufacturing is a vital component of delivering products at the lowest possible transaction cost to our customers and further supports our high-quality service and sales value proposition.”

The Meritor Lean Manufacturing System, built from the strengths and tools of the Meritor Performance System, emphasizes hands-on employee involvement focusing on sustaining performance improvements and is designed for all levels of participation at Meritor. “The improvements realized through the Meritor Performance System translate to bottom-line cost savings for our core Meritor Aftermarket Business as well as Meritor Logistics, our third-party logistics services offering,” says Craig Cartmill, general manager, worldwide operations.
