The National Bar Association’s Commercial Law Section honored Meritor Inc. with its “2012 Corporation of the Year” award. Vernon Baker, Meritor’s senior vice president and general counsel, accepted the honor on behalf of the company on Feb. 24 in Miami.

“We salute Meritor because it has gone above and beyond the call of duty in demonstrating these qualifications and has set the gold standard for other corporate law departments,” says Dawn Tezino, chair of NBA CLS. “The NBA CLS looks forward to continuing its long-term partnership with Meritor Inc. and its continued involvement with the Corporate Counsel Conference.”

The Corporation of the Year award is one of the highest honors presented annually by the organization and is based on several criteria, including historical support of the NBA CLS and the section’s initiatives, demonstrated leadership in diversity initiatives and a commitment to diversity in the corporation’s in-house counsel hiring.

“We’re committed to diversity in all aspects of our company,” Baker says. “This award is a reflection of our efforts in that arena. That said, we continue to make diversity a priority at Meritor.”
