Trailer orders in March were down 12 percent from the same month in 2012 and down 6 percent from February, according to numbers released this week from ACT Research.

However, according to ACT’s Frank Maly, director of commercial vehicle transportation, orders for trailers should pick up this year.

“Although orders are down, the orders being placed appear genuine, as cancellation activity has been negligible for most trailer categories,” Maly said. “Better economic growth, and the resulting gains in freight, should result in improved order volumes as the year progresses,” he added. “Backlogs decreased 4 percent in March, while inventories were up less than 2 percent.”
