The national average price of on-highway diesel rose 1.1 cents the week ended July 8 to $3.828 a gallon, according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.
The small increase marks the first time the price has risen since the week ended May 20. The national average for the week ended July 8 was 14.5 cents higher than the same week in 2012.
Prices in all regions rose, too, except for the New England region and the Rocky Mountain region. However, prices in all regions are up from the same week in 2012.
The Lower Atlantic region led all increases with a 2.6-cent move. California had the highest per-gallon price at $4.035, while the Gulf Coast region had the lowest price, $3.740.
Though the price of diesel had been dropping since mid-May, the weekly decreases had been small, and diesel was only down 7.3 cents since it began its six-week descent.
