Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear last week issued an emergency order suspending hours-of-service rules for truck drivers carrying relief supplies such as food, water, medicine, propane and other goods headed to areas of his state affected by severe winter weather in recent weeks.

The hours-of-service waiver began March 3 and lasts through midnight of March 19.

Operators carrying relief supplies aforementioned — as well as those carrying hay, water, forage and other supplies for livestock — will also be exempt from permit fees for overweight and oversized vehicles.

Drivers operating under the waiver must have a copy on them — Click here to see a PDF of the order.

The waivers only cover drivers transporting loads for relief efforts or those used in restoring utility outages.
