Orbcomm has been selected by Wayne Smith Trucking for its trailer tracking and monitoring technology.

Based in Morrilton, Ark., Wayne Smith Trucking specializes in hauling paper products and dry goods for its customers throughout the lower 48 states.

The company will use Orbcomm’s trailer telematics system, which uses self-powered solar recharging technology, to track and monitor its dry van trailers while moving or while at terminals.

The devices have ruggedized, sealed and waterproof solar panels that deliver continuous power to rechargeable batteries that last for the typical life of the trailer asset.

The tracking system installs in less than 10 minutes and includes a web application with data reporting and analytics capabilities.

By knowing the precise trailer count at each location at all times, Wayne Smith Trucking plans to improve asset utilization and efficiency by saving drivers time and fuel looking for empty trailers.

The system integrates with the McLeod LoadMaster dispatch software platform Wayne Smith Trucking uses to capture asset data every 15 minutes.

“The low-profile and quick and easy installation of Orbcomm’s telematics solution were key differentiators in our decision to move forward, and we are extremely pleased with the seamless deployment and our ability to power up the units remotely through Orbcomm’s mobile application,” said Neil Corder, president of Wayne Smith Trucking. “We are already seeing significant benefits in many areas of our business by using Orbcomm solution, which has enabled us to take the guesswork out of our trailer count at each location and always know exactly where our trailers are and how and when they are being utilized.”

Wayne Smith Trucking expects to complete deployment in the first quarter of 2018.
