Kenan Advantage Group (CCJ Top 250, No. 17) has acquired Evergreen Transport, a Mobile, Ala.-based dry bulk materials specialist operating throughout the southeast. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

KAG entered the dry bulk transportation business last year with its acquisition of Northern Dry Bulk, a Clare, Michigan-based company that specializes primarily in the transportation and storage of plastic resins for automotive, packaging, electronic and other end markets, in the U.S. and Canada.

As part of its latest acquisition, KAG onboards approximately 100 drivers and 45 operational members, 158 tractors, 338 trailers, and four terminal and satellite locations throughout Alabama.

"As we continue to strategically build our dry bulk transportation platform, Evergreen Transport is another perfect fit with our growth plan," said Rick Hoyle, KAG's executive vice president of dry bulk. "Their customer-centric business model, along with their diverse end user markets, complements our current dry bulk operations, which have grown significantly over the last 12 months. We are also inspired by Evergreen's truly unique, family-owned history, which captures the entrepreneurial spirit of our industry," Hoyle continued.

Evergreen Transport, founded by Walter Poole in 1946 and passed through three generations, delivers products such as lime and cement into a variety of end markets.

"The importance of partnering with an organization that will continue our founder's legacy of taking care of our employees and our customers was first on our list," said Evergreen Transport President David Wildberger. "It is exciting to be an integral part of a new and expanding dry bulk platform, which is capitalizing on the strengths of reputable and experienced players in our niche."
