One of the largest names in transportation and logistics technology may be exiting that industry altogether.
Trimble is reportedly putting its transportation and logistics (T&L) unit up for sale, according to a report from Axios on Tuesday. The report noted that the data analytics company is working with Goldman Sachs to sell the segment.
Trimble neither confirmed nor denied the claims in a statement provided to CCJ Wednesday: “Trimble regularly receives interest from various parties regarding our businesses. We do not comment on market rumors or speculation.”

Trimble built its T&L unit via M&A.
In 2011, it acquired PeopleNet, a provider of integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems for fleet management, which became part of the telematics units (under the T&L umbrella) it sold to Platform Science last year. With that deal, Trimble gained a 32.5% stake in Platform Science and a seat on the company’s board.
Trimble’s direct interest in transportation solutions is unclear if or when it divests its remaining T&L unit, which consists of transportation management systems, commercial navigation and route optimization, a freight marketplace and more. The company’s remaining segments would include architects, engineers, construction and owners (AECO) and field systems in the event it sells its T&L segment.
The company has built upon its T&L unit in recent years.
Trimble acquired the predominantly European cloud-based transportation management software platform Transporeon in 2023. The company unveiled several new features within its TMS at its Insight user conference late last year, and it also rolled out a TMS for shippers just last month.
