The “Uberization” of freight has been a topic of some discussion following the rise of the Uber taxi service. In the truckload market, new players are lining up to be the “Uber of trucking.” Whether any – or none – will reach the scope of the taxi service, becoming a true disruption in an industry in which the independent owner-operator and smartphone-based load-matching technology already are fairly prominent, is anybody’s guess.

Trucking drops 6,800 jobs in March, U.S. economy employment gains slow
The for-hire trucking industry’s total payroll employment shrunk by 6,800 jobs in March, according to preliminary data released April 3 by the Department of Labor. Trucking’s employment backslide came as the economy as a whole also slowed its employment gains, adding just 126,000 jobs in the month.
